Studies of the Pulmonary Circulation
نویسنده
چکیده
The question of whether or not the blood-vessels of the pulmonary circulation are under the control of the central nervous system has been a subject for difference of opinion for many years. Several years ago I published ( I ) the results of some experiments bearing upon this problem, which led me to a belief in the existence of a vasomotor supply to the lesser circulation. Since then I have carried on further investigation of the pulmonary circulation, with especial reference, however, to the effects of drugs upon it. The results which I have obtained in this second series of experiments have strengthened the conviction obtained from my first work on the subject. Before proceeding, however, with the report of my own experiments, I wish to call attention to the histological research of Dr. Karsner, published simultaneously with this paper. Dr. Karsner, who interested himself in this problem at m y suggestion, has succeeded in demonstrating, by a method of intra vitam staining with methylene blue, the presence of nerve filaments in the muscular coat of the pulmonary artery. This evidence seems to me of extreme importance. Brodie and Dixon brought forward as one of their arguments against the probability of a pulmonary vasomotor system, that they were unable to find, microscopically, any nerves in these vessels ; but as they themselves recognized, such negative evidence is not' of great weight, because the failure to find nerve filaments in the pulmonary arteries does not disprove their existence; on the other hand, a positive result is of much value. It is improbable that

Mathematical Modelling of Pulmonary Edema
The excess accumulation of water in lung interstitial or alveolar is called pulmonary edema which is caused by factors that upset the normal Starling balance in micro-circulation. Pulmonary edema disturbs the alveolar gas exchanges which are normally regulated by the respiratory system. Mathematical modelling of pulmonary edema may help to predict the lung conditions and the mechanisms involved...

متن کاملYoung Male’s Post Appendectomy Complication of Pulmonary Thromboembolism
The main goal of this report was to share with clinicians an atypical presentation of pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) in a young male`s post-appendectomy, whom he had no significant predisposing factors for such disease. The case also introduced for re-examining the challenges of PTE clinical manifestations which may mimic other differential diagnosis. PTE is an abrupt blockage of the pulmonary...

Tolazoline is a non-selective competitive α-adrenergic receptor antagonist. It is a vasodilator that is used to treat spasms of peripheral blood vessels (as in acrocyanosis).Tolazoline is indicated in the treatment of persistent pulmonary hypertension in the newborn (persistent fetal circulation) when systemic arterial oxygenation cannot be maintained by supplemental oxygen and mechanical venti...

Objective(s): To study the effect of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-кB) and cytokine expression and pulmonary function in dogs. Materials and Methods: Twelve male mongrel dogs were divided into a methylprednisolone group (group M) and a control group (group C). All animals underwent aortic and right atrial catheterization under general anesthesia. Changes in pulmonar...

Background and purpose: Increased pressure in the pulmonary circulation is of the major factors causing cardiac disorders in patients with thalassemia. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between splenectomy and pulmonary arterial pressure in individuals with beta- thalassemia major. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in patients with beta- t...
